On July 21, 2011 at approximately 12:24 a.m., the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department received a complaint from an alert citizen regarding a suspicious person on the grounds of Healey Brothers Chevrolet located at 1960 South Road, Poughkeepsie. The caller reported seeing a subject riding an ATV in the car lot while carrying what appeared to be a vehicle jack.
Officers responding did hear an All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) operating in the wooded area behind the dealership. A check of the dealership found that a vehicle had been jacked up and four (4) wheels, tires and lug nuts had been stolen.
A Town of Poughkeepsie K-9 Officer was called in to assist. A track was located in brush that ran towards some power lines. The K-9 unit was able to track the subject’s scent through a wooded area with rough terrain to a residence on Spring Rd. in the Town of Poughkeepsie.
Following the K-9 unit’s track, the officers were able to recover the property stolen as well as the individual involved in the theft of the wheels and tires. The tires and wheels were valued at over $1,000.00.
Arrested was Henry Zaitz of Spring Rd in Poughkeepsie.
He was charged on July 29 with Grand Larceny in the 4th Degree- Class E Felony
He was released on Appearance Ticket returnable before Judge Paul Sullivan, Town of Poughkeepsie Justice Court on 8/16/11 at 4:00pm.
